Clinical Director of Mental Health - Armadale Mental Health (FTE – 75 Hours per fortnight)
Armadale Mental Health is inviting applications from Psychiatrists (with any subspecialty interests) who are considering a directorship appointment: Armadale is located 29 Km south of Perth amongst spectacular natural bushland and panoramic coastal plains scenery. It is famous for its historic architecture as well as being only half and hour’s drive from Perth – voted amongst the top five most liveable cities in the world
Armadale Mental Health Services consists of the following services:
Þ Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services
Þ General Adult – 25 Inpatient beds and Outpatient Mental Health Services
Þ Older Adult Mental Health Service – 16 bed inpatient unit plus outpatient services to the 65+ mental health community
Þ Horizons - Mental Health Rehabilitation Service ( a community based ‘drop-in’ centre for outpatients)
Þ Karri Ward - Mental Health Services (an 8 bed mental health rehab service)
Þ Mead & Eudoria St - Mental Health Services (a day centre for community based patients)
The Psychiatrist position will be a full time post which will be a combined Clinical and Administrative appointment with approximately equal time spent in both. The main duties of this role will be:
Administrative
Þ Clinical leadership of the Armadale Mental Health Service
Þ Collaboration with the Operations Manager to submit reports or statistical data
Þ Representation of the Mental Health Service as an active member of the medical administration
Þ Participation in the ongoing development and evaluation of the integrated community and inpatient mental health services
Þ The duties of Psychiatrist in Charge as specified in the Mental Health Act.
Clinical
Þ Comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ensures that clinical interventions are provided by appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team for patients
Þ Clinical responsibility for any patient admitted to Armadale Health Service under his/her name
Þ Participation in after hours and weekend roster, as determined appropriate for service delivery.
Þ Liaisons with colleagues and relevant external agencies regarding patient management. Teaching, Education and Research
Þ Ongoing professional development to maintain professional and technical skills at an advanced level.
Þ Supervision of registrars in training for the RANZCP, as required by College standards.
Þ Participation in the teaching of medical graduates and undergraduates, nursing and allied staff.
Þ Initiation and participates in research projects, with active promotion of research to facilitate service development.
Clinical Governance
Þ Participation in a continuous process to monitor, evaluate and develop performance with the Director South Metropolitan Mental Health Service
Þ Supervision and undertakes three monthly performance appraisals of junior medical staff.
Þ Ensuring the Mental Health Act, 1996 regulations and other relevant legislation are adhered to
Þ Responsible for ensuring, as far as practicable, the provision of a safe working environment in consultation with staff under their supervision Requirements:
- Medical Degree eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Western Australia
- FRANZCP or equivalent (MRCPsych with CCST, US Board Certified, FRCPC)
- Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated highly developed communication/interpersonal skills
- Well developed strategic management, administrative and analytical skills.
- Experience in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and supervision.
- Commitment to clinical research.
