This is an emergency primary care service offering surgery consultations and justified home visits to patients on behalf of subscribing general practitioners (GPs) on weekends, weeknights and public holidays. This service, which is highly regarded locally, is the only such service in the region and enjoys excellent relations with general practice. This central clinic provides an innovative service which is delivering the most progressive After Hours General Practice Solution in Australia. This service is the only such service in Australia which combines a central surgery focus with a triage facility.
The service presently normally enjoys a mixed workforce of 'core' doctors and part-timers, plus 15 nurses(up to 3 in the call centre at any one time) and about 9 administrative/clerical staff. It offers in-house radiographic and on-call pathology facilities through local specialist services. Hospital admissions may be arranged with any of the local private hospitals or the State Hospital and emergency access to local specialists is available at all times. They liaise closely with subscribing GPs in order to ensure the appropriate management and continuity of care for their patients.
The delightful Island State of Tasmania offers tremendous geographical variety within easy access - unlike the mainland where one usually has to travel great distances to escape the ‘sameness’. The mild climate makes this region all the more enjoyable(it resembles the best English summers with the mildest English winters) and the Capital is the second sunniest State Capital in Australia. This Region has a population of just under half a million, so there is a wealth of natural resources to be enjoyed and an enormous range of recreational pursuits(particularly watersports) The City is an ideal size(pop. 180,000), varied but friendly, with a great range of restaurants, shops, theatre, concert and other entertainment.
The job is structured to maximise both income and leisure opportunities and would ideally suit a ‘lifestyler’, or doctor looking for quality time and outdoor interests. It offers: flexible combination of clinic and telephone triage sessions, minimal home visiting and no more than one overnight shift weekly(triage), enjoyable small team environment based in modern premises.
