The position of Consultant Psychiatrist is based in the Child and Youth Mental Health Service attached to this hospital, located about 2 hours north of Auckland and is a 225 bed general hospital with departments of medicine, surgery, child health, maternal health and mental health. The work is predominantly with outpatients, both in the main hospital and at other community clinics in outlying areas. The appointee would be the senior clinician in a multi-disciplinary team and would undertake comprehensive assessment and management of cases as well as providing clinical leadership and supervision to other team members. Liaison with colleagues in adult mental health services, other child health services and the regional child and youth psychiatric inpatient unit at  in Auckland would be required.

All applicants should be eligible for vocational registration as specialist psychiatrists with the Medical Council of New Zealand. There is the opportunity to undertake supervision of a registrar undertaking training for FRANZCP.
